– Gewurztraminer and Forté, two of Cherry Point’s most popular wines, have won awards this year at the national level. The All Canadian Wine Championships is one of Canada’s most respected wine competitions. Cherry Point Estate Wine’s highly sought after medium bodied red, 2005 Forté, has won silver in the 2007 All Canadian Wine Championships. Last year the 2004 Forté won top honors, capturing a Best of Category award. The 2005 Forté is made from Cherry Point’s estate grown red variety called Castel. This hybrid red grape is strong and exuberant in the vineyard, thus we call it Forté for its strength. Forté is aged in old French oak barrels for 10 months giving the wine a supple velvety texture. This wine is dominated by a cherry aroma, with hints of plum and raspberry. The 2006 Gewurztraminer also received a Silver medal in the All Canadian Wine Championships, beating out some tough competition. Cherry Point has produced over the past three year’s quite amazing examples of Gewurztraminer and has won medals to show for it. In the 2005 All Canadian Wine Championships it received a Best of Category award, a higher placement than gold. The 2006 Gewurztraminer has soft sweet lychee nut fruit flavours that are balanced with good acidity, followed by a fine spicy, medium dry finish.
